The aftercare of nail enhancements (any gel on your nails) is an important part of keeping your nails looking good and lasting until your next appointment. Note that hand-made cuticle oil is available in 2 different sizes for pick up in studio (no shipping). You have the option to add-on to your appointment and make any notes regarding scent, quantity and size.
- It's important to understand that nails should be treated as 'jewels and not tools' which means that you should not use your nails to pick, pry or open containers. You should also not hit or bang your nails on things as that repetitive movement can cause your enhancements to detach from the nail. This usually causes damage to your natural nail in the process. Try to be self-aware of your nails, your angles when you grab things, and overall what you're doing with your hands.
- Ideally, you shouldn't be submerging your nails in warm water for long periods of time. Your nails can soften or become brittle and curl potentially cause lifting. It's also suggested to wait 24 hours after your appointment before submerging your nails in water.
- If washing the dishes or gardening wear the appropriate gloves. Water isn't your friend and neither is compacted debris.
- As a general guideline, apply cuticle oil two to three times daily. After a shower in the morning and before bed are good times with at least one during the day for good measure.
- Don't go longer than recommended in between service appointments because the apex (strongest point of the enhancement) grows out, moves to the improper position, and is no longer thick enough which puts the nail at risk for damage. Nail Werks recommends every 2-5 weeks depending on individual nails and lifestyles.
